Class Descriptions

Modified Pilates/Core Strengthening for Low Back Pain

This course is based on the most up to date evidence of spinal stability, pelvic stability, strength and conditioning and pain. Using a modified Pilates approach to mat exercises in a safe and effective manner, this class is designed for individuals with a history of low back pain to strengthen and re-train deep core abdominal musculature to reduce the recurrence of low back pain.

Yoga with Susan Thompson-Brown, MPT

  • BEGINNING YOGA is a hatha yoga class with elements of flow, incorporating traditional postures and breathing techniques.
  • BEGINNING YOGA is a hatha yoga class with elements of flow, incorporating traditional postures and breathing techniques.
  • YOGA BASICS is an introductory approach to yoga for the novice practitioner or those desiring a slower and more focused approach.
  • YIN YOGA utilizes props such as bolsters and   blocks for support and participants hold postures for a longer period of  time. Yin Yoga accesses deep connective tissue stretching. Yin complements any myofascial work and is calming to the nervous system.  Class size is limited to 12 participants.
  • YOGA FOR CORE AND SPINE  emphasizes central core stability and safe, appropriate spinal movements.
  • CONNECTED YOGA – core and pelvic floor was designed to emphasize pelvic core stability and flexibility of low back, pelvis, and legs.   For women and men working through pelvic pain, continence issues, and those wanting a grounded approach, traditional yoga postures are utilized and enhanced.

Senior Fitness

This class is designed to help seniors stay or get fit! Exercises will focus on strength, balance, endurance, and flexibility with a goal of keeping you active in your life and improving your daily function. The pace and level of exercises performed are appropriate for seniors and individuals seeking a less strenuous exercise program. Participants should be able to independently get on and off the floor.

Classic Barre

A fun and effective workout utilizing a ballet barre and classical ballet concepts to strengthen hip and core muscles as well as enhance flexibility and balance. No dance experience required.

Yamuna Body Rolling

A technique that utilizes 6-10” diameter inflatable balls the stretch muscles and free restrictions in all parts of the body and ultimately increase blood flow and promote healing.

Happy Digestion Lecture and Exercise Series with Ginny Pomeroy

This course will examine the best ways to optimize your digestion so that you can optimize your health! We will discuss how the body is designed to utilize the food we feed ourselves as well as discuss what lifestyle habits support good digestion. This class will also feature some gentle movement exercises and relaxation techniques that are designed to stimulate and nurture the organs that play a role in digestion. Come take the mystery out of making healthy food choices and learn what you can do to have “Happy Digestion”!

Costs

Classes are $95 for 6-week session ($85 senior and student discount). Check our class schedule for times and days. Please call 883-1227 for more information.

Preparing for Class

  • Please arrive a few minutes early, classes will begin promptly at their scheduled times
  • Please wear comfortable clothing
  • Please bring a water bottle and your personal yoga mat, if available
  • **NO STREET SHOES ARE ALLOWED IN THE STUDIO**

Payment Policy

  • Payment for all classes is due in full prior to the start of the class session. For classes that accept Drop-In students, payment is due at the time of participation.
  • No refunds will be issued. Classes will be prorated for the following session should a participant need to stop a class for medical reasons. A Physician’s note will be required.
  • We reserve the right to cancel any class with fewer than four (4) Participants registered.
  • In the event Scarborough Physical Therapy Associates cancels a class due to inclement weather or other reasons, a make up class will be offered within the same session. Making up a class can only occur during the same session, at the discretion of the Instructor.
